Stephan "Maze" Georges

Sneakerheads: Singularly obsessed, highly opinionated, far too knowledgeable, these are the people you see sleeping on the street outside the Nike store for days before a new shoe is released. And, like all good cult members, when they like you, they really like you. Such is the good fortune enjoyed by Stephan Maze Georges, whose graffiti-infused, laser-etched, limited-edition Air Force 1s have won him a place in the hearts of these notoriously hard-to-please obsessives, keeping the Internet sneaker boards buzzing with words of praise and his resale value high. Born into a family of artists, Maze fell into the graffiti scene during its early ’80s golden age and soon parlayed his creative skills into clothing design. Later he found himself in the film and music worlds, working as an art directoron projects for big names like Mariah Carey, P. Diddy, and David LaChappele. The Brooklyn-based artist now works as lead designer for the clothing lines at vinyl toy mecca Kidrobot. His numerous apparel and toy design projects seemingly not sufficient outlets for Maze’s ample creative energy, he has been a drummer since the age of 16, jumping from hardcore to hip hop and now drumming in a metal band. Asked what band he would like to design an album cover for, he replied, “Slayer. It would let me release the violent side of my art.”
